for apparent violation of his plea agreement. brown pled guilty to bank fraud. as a part of that plea brown is required to be truthful with authorities and disclose personal finances. the u.s. attorney's office is not commenting to the on the reason for the hearing. brown faces up to a year in prison. pepco and its workers reached tentative agreement on a contract avoiding strike. the membership still has to vote on that contract. neither side is providing specific details about the new deal but the union president is recommending members approve it. time for a first look at our forecast. veronica johnson joining us to tell us about the rain and cold. >> chilly. yesterday's high only 55. that was it. >> sad. >> it felt like late fall. early winter.

the high today, 60. checking the roads for you. looks like good news around the road. early morning construction looks to be clear. if you're traveling along 66, making your way westbound from the beltway all the way to nuttily, construction there but it's clear as you're making your commute. no issues east or west bound on 66. either outside or inside the beltway. speaking of the beltway, traveling the beltway in virginia, travel lanes are open in this area as well. had a couple work zones in place, they're clear. as you make your commute around the beltway from virginia all the way to maryland, nice and clear. also on the inner loop at university boulevard, had a work zone there, it's now clear. those travel lanes are open but roads are wet so give yourself extra time if you're about to make your way out of the house. today is sentencing day for jerry sandusky, the former penn state assistant football coach convicted in june of sexually abusing 10 boys over 15 years. sandusky did not testify at his

trial but he is expected to speak at his sentencing. his victims will have a chance to give impact statements. yesterday sandusky released a statement from his cell on penn state radio maintaining his innocence. sandusky says he plans to file an appeal. >> we will continue to fight. we didn't lose the proven facts, evidence, accurate locations and times. anything can be said. we lost to speculation and stories that were influenced by people who wanted to convict me. we must fight unfairness and consistency and dishonesty. >> sandusky faces 60 to more than 400 years in prison. the first lady will make her way to northern virginia today to campaign for her husband. michelle obama will speak to supporters in ladu loudoun coun. both candidates and their spouses are making a strong push with less than a month to election day.

the first lady's event openth to the public at 2:45 this afternoon. the president has catching up to do because of his oppon t opponent's strong debate performance. a new survey shows mitt romney holds a 4-point lead over the president 49% to 45%. this amounts to a huge swing. the poll also shows that romney's favorability is rising and that he's making gains among women and hispanic voters. this week republicans are focusing on winning over voters in north carolina. senators john mccain and behind day graham will be campaigning on behalf of mitt romney today in the battle ground state. house speaker john boehner will attend events for the gop presidential nominee on friday and saturday. romney himself will campaign in north carolina on thursday. he was in virginia yesterday. he told supporters in newport news that president obama would cut military spending, which will leave hundreds of thousands of virginians without a job.

the president will be campaigning in ohio. he'll visit ohio state university in columbus. president obama held more than 30 campaign events on college campuses this year. he'll fly to the buckeye state from california where he wrapped up a lucrative fund-raising trip last night in san francisco. another death linked to that meningitis outbreak. the centers for disease control says at least 105 people have been sickened by that rare fungal infection. nine people are dead, two of those deaths were in maryland and virginia. health officials linked the outbreak to steroid shots used for back pain. the shots were made by a speclty pharmacy in massachusetts. the cdc telling doctors, stop using any drugs made by that pharmacy. this form of meningitis is not contagious. check your freezer. giant is voluntarily recalling a popular gelato because of a possible salmonella contamination related to peanut butter.

abduction charges after learning she had nine children in her home, not six, as first method. she allegedly moved three of the children to a neighbor's house before police arrived without their parents' permission. all were under the age of 4. a montgomery county high school athlete may have suffered a spinal injury during football practice. the injury happened while a jv football player practiced yesterday at poolsville high school. a crew flew him to a local trauma center with serious but nonlife threatening injuries. last check he was in stable condition with parties at his side. investigators are trying to determine what caused a fire at an indoor practice facility under construction at the university of virginia in charlottesville. the fire broke out yesterday afternoon sending thick black smoke in the air. officials say crews were working on the building when the fire started. the richmond times dispatch reports a worker was installing rods when insulation and tar on the roof caught fire from the drilling sparks. the facility was scheduled to open next august.

if i've started seeing stink bugs turn up again you're not alone. farmers and scientists say they've arrived in full force in maryland. the u.s. agriculture department says a population of stink bugs in frederick county is up 60% from a year ago. that number is not as high as in 2010 when stink bugs were just about everywhere. researchers are looking at a couple of options to combat the stink bug problem, including introducing insects that are predators of the stink bug into the area. good, more bugs. there's a plan in the works to add a new hotel, apartments and shops at the rockville town square. montgomery county announced a grant from the economic fund. construction will happen at a
